Noida, India: Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry (ICMEI), extended his warm congratulations and best wishes to H.E. João Ribeiro de Almeida, Ambassador of Portugal to India, and the people of Portugal on the auspicious occasion of the National Day of Portugal, celebrated annually on 10th June.

Exhibition on Portuguese Architecture Inaugurated by Dr. Sandeep Marwah and Ambassador of Portugal at India Habitat Centre

New Delhi: An exclusive Exhibition of Architecture from Portugal was inaugurated at the India Habitat Centre by Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of Marwah Studios and Chair for the Indo Portugal Film and Cultural Forum, along with H.E. João Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, Ambassador of Portugal to India. The exhibition was organised by renowned Architect Rajinder Kumar in association with the Embassy of Portugal and Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre, in collaboration with prominent Indian architects, to commemorate 50 years of renewed diplomatic relations between India and Portugal.

The exhibition brought together a large number of distinguished architects and design professionals who showcased their works inspired by Portuguese styles, traditions, and architectural influences. The event celebrated the cultural synergy between the two nations, highlighting the historic and contemporary exchange of architectural ideas.

While inaugurating the exhibition and lighting the ceremonial lamp, Dr. Sandeep Marwah expressed his admiration for the timeless elegance of Portuguese architecture. Noida, India – The 13th Global Festival of Journalism, in conjunction with AVGC Noida 2025, proudly featured the special screening of the acclaimed Portuguese documentary “Another Country”, directed by Sergio Trefaut. The screening was held in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal, drawing a full house and sparking thoughtful engagement among the audience.

Noida, 28th December: João Ribeirete, Director of the Portuguese Cultural Centre, was presented with the prestigious Award of Distinction for the Portuguese film “The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis” directed by João Botelho. The award ceremony took place during the 17th Global Film Festival at Marwah Film City, Noida.

Expressing his gratitude, João Ribeirete said, “This recognition is a testament to the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Portugal. The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis reflects our literary and cinematic tradition, and I am deeply honored to see it celebrated on this global platform.”

Relations between India and Portugal date back to over 500 years when the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama led a sea-faring expedition to Calicut (Kozhikode) in Kerala in May 1498, making him the first to discover a direct sea route between Europe and South Asia, across the Atlantic Ocean and the African continent. This enabled Portugal to directly access the highly profitable Indian spice market and emerge as a dominant colonial trading power.

A MOU on Cultural cooperation was signed on June 24, 2017 during PM Modi’s visit to Portugal.
