Fourth Summit on Education Alliances Inaugurated by Sandeep Marwah in New Delhi

New Delhi: The 4th Summit on Education Alliances, organized by the Centre for Education Growth and Research (CEGR), took place at Hotel Eros, New Delhi. The summit, aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation in India’s education sector, saw participation from prominent educational institutions from across the country.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of Marwah Studios, Past President of CEGR, and now a mentor for CEGR, inaugurated the event alongside T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), who served as the Chief Guest. During his address, Dr. Marwah emphasized the vital role of education in shaping the future of the nation, remarking, “Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one. If anything can take India to new heights, it is education.”

The event was attended by a wide array of educational leaders, including Prof. Dr. G.D. Yadav, President of CEGR, and Ravish Roshan, Director of CEGR. Discussions at the summit revolved around enhancing higher education in India and the importance of alliances between institutions to drive growth and research in the sector.

A unique feature of the summit was the opportunity for institutions to meet, greet, and sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to promote collaboration. These MOUs focus on sharing resources, knowledge, and support in order to strengthen the education system across India.

AAFT University, a key participant at the summit, also showcased its commitment to educational excellence and actively engaged in discussions about enhancing collaboration within the Indian education sector.

The 4th Summit on Education Alliances was a grand success, furthering CEGR’s mission to unite institutions in a collective effort to advance the country’s educational landscape.

New Delhi: “Technical Education plays a vital role in human resource development of the country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life of its people,” said Dr. Sandeep Marwah Chancellor of AAFT University and President CEGR- Centre for Education for Growth and Research discussing the role of  research &  technical education in India with the members of IFTRC-International Film and Television Research Centre in a seminar organised to know more about Technical education.

Explaining the role of an important organization like AICTE-The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Dr. Marwah said  that  AICTE grants approval for starting new technical institutions, for introduction of new courses and for variation in intake capacity in technical institutions.

The AICTE has delegated to the concerned state governments powers to process and grant approval of new institutions, starting new courses and variations in the intake capacity for diploma level technical institutions. It also lays down norms and standards for such institutions. It also ensures quality development of technical education through accreditation of technical institutions or programmes.

In additional to its regulatory role, the AICTE also has a promotional role which it implements through schemes for promoting technical education for women, handicapped and weaker section of the society promoting innovations, faculty, research and development, giving grants to technical institutions.

“The technical institutions under the AICTE include post-graduate, under-graduate and diploma in the whole spectrum of technical education covering engineering/technology, pharmacy, architecture, hotel management and catering technology, management studies computer applications and applied arts and crafts,” added Dr. Marwah who is also on the board of Applied Arts of AICTE

The AICTE has its headquarters in New Delhi and seven regional offices located at Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bhopal and Bangalore. A new regional office at Hyderabad has been set up and is to be operational soon.

Sandeep Marwah President CEGR Talked about Higher Education

New Delhi: Higher Education sector has witnessed a tremendous increase in the number of Universities/University level Institutions & Colleges since Independence. The number of Universities has increased 50 times from 20 in 1950 to 1050 in 2021,” informed Dr. Sandeep Marwah President CEGR- Centre for Education Growth and Research & Chancellor AAFT University of Media and Arts while addressing the press at 4th National Education Excellence Conclave at IIC. He is also on the board of AICTE, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The sector boasts of 54 Central Universities, 416 State Universities, 361 State Private universities, 129 Deemed to be Universities, 159 Institutions of National Importance (established under Acts of Parliament) under MoE. The number of colleges has also registered manifold increase of 100 times with just 500 in 1950 growing to 52627, as on 31st March, 2021

The quantum growth in the Higher Education sector is spear-headed by Universities, which are the highest seats of learning. Approximately 8 million students are in higher education.

In India, “University” means a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act and includes any such institution as may, in consultation with the University concerned, be recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in accordance with the regulations made in this regard under the UGC Act, 1956. Every year, millions of students from within the country and abroad, enter these portals mainly for their graduate, post graduate studies while millions leave these portals for the world outside.

Higher Education is the shared responsibility of both the Centre and the States. The coordination and determination of standards in Universities & Colleges is entrusted to the UGC and other statutory regulatory bodies.

The Central Government provides grants to the UGC and establishes Central Universities/Institutions of National Importance in the country. The Central Government is also responsible for declaring an educational institution as “Deemed-to-be University” on the recommendations of the UGC.

At present, the main categories of University/University-level Institutions are :- Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed-to-be Universities and University-level institutions.
