New Delhi, India: The 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated with great pride and diplomatic warmth at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, reflecting the enduring friendship between India and Sri Lanka.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair for the Indo Sri Lanka Film and Cultural Forum, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency Mahishini Colonne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, on this historic and proud occasion.

The celebration was graced by the presence of Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India, who attended as the Chief Guest. His presence underscored the strong diplomatic, environmental, and cultural cooperation shared by both nations.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Sandeep Marwah emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. He stated, “India and Sri Lanka share centuries-old civilizational, cultural, and artistic ties. Through the Indo Sri Lanka Film and Cultural Forum, we are committed to further enhancing people-to-people connections, promoting cinematic collaboration, and encouraging artistic exchange between our two great nations.”

He reaffirmed the Forum’s dedication to organizing joint film festivals, cultural delegations, academic collaborations, and creative partnerships.

The event highlighted the strong bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the role of art, culture, and media in fostering stronger ties.

Extending his warm wishes, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of ICMEI, congratulated Her Excellency Kshenuka Dhireni Senewiratne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, and the people of Sri Lanka on their Independence Day, celebrated on 4th February.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Marwah emphasized the historic and friendly ties between India and Sri Lanka, stating that cultural collaboration can further enhance people-to-people interactions between the two nations. “India and Sri Lanka share an enduring relationship, which can be strengthened through art, culture, and cinema. This is precisely what the Indo-Sri Lanka Film and Cultural Forum has been working towards,” he added.

The relationship between India and Sri Lanka is more than 2,500 years old. Both countries have a legacy of intellectual, cultural, religious and linguistic interaction. In recent years, the relationship has been marked by close contacts at all levels. Trade and investment have grown and there is cooperation in the fields of development, education, culture and defence. Both countries share a broad understanding on major issues of international interest.

Recently ICMEI sponsored a car drive to Sri Lanka carrying a message of Love, Peace and Unity through Art and Culture.
