Dr. Sandeep Marwah Addresses Media Fraternity on Historic BIS Standards for Media & Entertainment Industry

New Delhi: Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair of the Media and Entertainment Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Founder of Noida Film City, and Vice President of FFI, addressed a distinguished gathering of media professionals and students, offering a comprehensive insight into the vision, scope, and progress of the Committee.

While interacting with the audience, Dr. Sandeep Marwah explained that the Media and Entertainment Committee is engaged in a landmark national initiative—the drafting, structuring, and finalization of standardized norms for India’s vast and diverse Media and Entertainment Industry. He emphasized that once completed, these standards will mark a historic achievement, bringing clarity, consistency, global alignment, and long-term growth to the sector.

Dr. Marwah highlighted that all segments of the industry are being deliberated upon in depth through multiple rounds of discussions. These include the industry’s achievements, existing challenges, operational gaps, evolving requirements, historical perspective, and detailed comparisons with international best practices. “Every recommendation placed on the table is the outcome of exhaustive research, dialogue, and collective wisdom,” he stated.

He further informed that nearly 60 of the most experienced and eminent professionals from across the Media and Entertainment ecosystem are actively contributing to this prestigious committee, ensuring that the proposed standards are practical, progressive, and globally relevant.

Dr. Marwah expressed his deep appreciation for the officers and staff of BIS for their sincere efforts, professionalism, and unwavering cooperation, acknowledging their vital role in steering the initiative toward impactful and meaningful outcomes. He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to elevating India’s Media and Entertainment Industry to new global benchmarks through structured standards and collaborative leadership.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah Reviews Progress of SSD 13 Media & Entertainment Committee at Bureau of Indian Standards

New Delhi: Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair, Media and Entertainment Committee (SSD 13), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, convened a review meeting today to take a first-hand assessment of the progress made by various sectional committees under SSD 13. The meeting focused on evaluating the extensive work completed towards developing and strengthening national standards across the diverse domains of the media and entertainment industry.

Dr. Marwah, who is also the Founder of Noida Film City and Marwah Studios, and Chancellor of AAFT University, expressed deep appreciation for the remarkable volume and quality of work undertaken in framing standards related to Print Media, Radio, Television, Cinema, New Media, OTT platforms, Events, and Media Education, among others. He lauded the structured approach and collaborative spirit demonstrated by the committee members in aligning Indian media standards with global best practices while keeping the unique needs of the Indian industry in mind.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sandeep Marwah said, “The formulation of comprehensive and forward-looking standards is essential for the sustainable growth, quality assurance, and global competitiveness of India’s media and entertainment sector. I am highly impressed by the dedication and expertise reflected in the work done by all the committees under SSD 13. These standards will play a crucial role in professionalizing the industry and ensuring excellence across platforms.”

Dr. Marwah thanked all the committee members for their commitment and valuable contributions. He offered special appreciation to Mr. Shivam Soni, Deputy Director and Scientist, BIS, for his consistent support and technical guidance, and extended special thanks to Mr. Rajneesh Khosla, Head SSD & International Affairs, Bureau of Indian Standards, for his leadership, vision, and continuous encouragement in driving the standardization process forward.

The meeting reaffirmed BIS’s commitment to developing robust, relevant, and future-ready standards for the rapidly evolving media and entertainment ecosystem in India.

BIS Media and Entertainment Committee Meet Held at Marwah Studios

Noida, India – The 13th Media and Entertainment Committee meeting of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, was successfully conducted at Marwah Studios under the esteemed chairmanship of Dr. Sandeep Marwah.

During the meeting, Dr. Sandeep Marwah highlighted the significance of standardization in the media and entertainment industry. He informed the attendees about the various standards being developed under the committee’s supervision. He also emphasized the role of 12 sub-committees comprising 60 industry experts from various disciplines, all working collectively to establish uniform benchmarks for the sector.

“Standardization is crucial in ensuring quality, consistency, and global recognition for India’s growing media and entertainment industry,” said Dr. Marwah. He further expressed gratitude to all committee members for their dedicated efforts in shaping industry standards.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Secretary Member Shivam Soni, acknowledging the contributions of all participants in driving the initiative forward.

 The International Chamber of Media & Entertainment Industry (ICMEI), in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, organized a technical session as part of the Full-Day Summit on Media & Entertainment Standards. The session aimed to explore the importance, objectives, and challenges of standardization in the media and entertainment industry.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair for the Committee in BIS, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, addressed the gathering and shared his observations on the evolving landscape of media standards. He emphasized the critical role of well-defined standards in fostering industry growth and ensuring quality across various media sectors.

The session featured insightful discussions led by prominent speakers, including: Dr. Pavan Duggal, Renowned Lawyer, specializing in cyber law and media regulations, Maj. Gen. Rajan Kochar, Vice Chairman of the National Council of News and Broadcasting, S.K. Kanojia, Head of Service Sector at BIS, Atul Churamani, Managing Director of Turnkey Music and Publishing Pvt. Ltd., Paritosh Saha, Executive Director of Jio Star, Shivam Soni, Scientist and Member Secretary, BIS.

Each speaker presented compelling case studies, showcasing the need for robust standards to address industry challenges. Discussions highlighted the significance of establishing consistent guidelines to enhance content quality, streamline processes, and address emerging issues in the media and entertainment sectors.

The technical session fostered a collaborative environment for industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to share experiences and insights, paving the way for a more standardized and efficient media ecosystem in India. Later Dr Sandeep Marwah honoured all the speakers with the life membership of International Journalism Centre of Marwah Studios.

The exhibition was formally opened by Dr. Judyta Latymowich, a distinguished lawyer from Poland and a member of the Asian Law College, in the presence of esteemed guests and industry leaders.

The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the evolving landscape of standards in the M&E sector.

S.K. Kanojia, Head of the Service Sector at BIS, provided a detailed explanation of the significance of industry standards and their impact on the media and entertainment industry.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of Marwah Studios, and National Chair for M&E Committee in BIS Ministry of Consumer Affaires, Government of India, opened the session with an insightful introduction to the M&E industry, revealing eye-opening statistics on its rapid growth. His presentation shed light on the industry’s transformation and the increasing need for structured guidelines to support its expansion.

Prominent industry figures also shared their perspectives on the role of standards in shaping the future of the media industry. Sandeep Marwah Renominated Chair for M&E Committee of Bureau of Indian Standard

Sandeep Marwah Renominated Chair for M&E Committee BIS Govt. of India

New Delhi: Renowned film, television and media personality Dr. Sandeep Marwah has been renominated as the Chair for Media and Entertainment Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India for a period of three years.

Dr Sandeep Marwah, nine times World Record Holder, is the founder of Noida Film City, President of Marwah Studios and Chancellor of AAFT University of Media and Arts. He is also the President of International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry and representing different National and International organizations in India and abroad.

BIS, being the National Standards Body, has been mandated to take up formulation of standards in the 12 Champion Services Sectors identified by the Government of India for focused attention with special attention drawn towards need for standardization. Audio visual Services (Media and Entertainment Services Sector) is one of the Champion Service Sector and there is a need to develop relevant Indian Standards for it on priority basis for which a national committee has been formed of professionals and experts under  Media and Entertainment Services Sectional Committee (SSD 13). 

On his renomination, Dr. Sandeep Marwah expressed his gratitude to the government and thanked them for their continued support in the development of the Media and Entertainment Services Sector.

Noida: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standard Body of India. BIS is responsible for the harmonious development of the activities of standardisation, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto,” said Dr. Sandeep Marwah President of Asian Business School & National Chairman Media & Entertainment Committee BIS Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution.

BIS Certification is a means for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the customer. BIS Certification is voluntary in nature; however, the Government of India has made BIS certification mandatory for certain products taking into consideration public health added Sandeep Marwah.

BIS is the National Standard Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardisation, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto BIS has been providing traceable and tangible benefits to the national economy in a number of ways – providing safe reliable quality goods; minimising health hazards to consumers; promoting exports and imports substitute; control over proliferation of varieties etc. through standardisation, certification and testing informed Neha Yadav Joint Director Service Sector Department SSD Bureau of Indian Standards Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution.

We are Reaching towards our Goal of Setting Standards for M&E Industry- Sandeep Marwah

New Delhi:” I congratulate all the members of Media and Entertainment Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards specially formed to set the standards of Indian Media and Entertainment Industry of the Republic of India. Sixty members team has been putting their best day in day out to gather best of the information from different parts of the World in different disciplines to reach to the common goal,” said Sandeep Marwah National Chairman of M&E SSD13 BIS, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India during the seventh meeting at Manak Bhawan.

“This is for the first time that Indian Government has decided to have standards for media and entertainment industry. I am thankful to all of you for being part of this historical movement. I am sure very soon we all will be reaching towards our goal of setting standards,” added Sandeep Marwah Charing the meeting.

“We have created committees like Print, Radio, Television & OTT, Cinema, Music & Sound, Events, Media Education & Skill Development, Advertising, New Media and number of experts are now associated with the committee,” said BIS official Sanjay Goswami Sc.F & Head SSD-1 BIS, Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

New Delhi: “I am thankful to each and every member of committee on Media & Entertainment Industry SSD-13 in Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India where we are all involved with the planning and designing of standards for Indian media and entertainment Industry,” said Dr. Sandeep Marwah National Chairman of the committee while talking to the professionals from the industry in the fifth meeting of the media chapter.

The committee was framed two years back and ten subcommittees were created including Print, Radio, Television & OTT, Cinema, Education & Skill Development, Sound & Music, Event Management, New Media and Advertising.

Every subcommittee has some professionals from the industry sharing their vast experiences and expertise to frame better standards for the industry. The board has invited professionals and experts for suggestions from Airtel Digitel TV, Advertising Standards Council of India, Amazon Prime Video India, Association of Bangalore Animation Industry, Association of Radio Operators of India, Central Board of Film Certification, Children Film Society India, Confederation of Indian Industry and Dolby Technology India P Ltd.

Members from Event and Entertainment Management Association, AAFT University of Media & Arts, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Film Federation of India, Film and Television Institute of India, Hotstar Novi Digital Entertainment, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Indian Motion Picture Producers Association, Indian Music Industry,  Jagran Prakashan Ltd, Media and Entertainment Association of India, Media and Entertainment Skill Council, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneur also been part of the board.
