Retrospective Of Jean Rouch At 4th Global Film Festival Noida

For the first time in India any film festival has ever designed a retrospective of six films of the renowned French film director Jean Rouch. The retrospective will be shown at the 4th Global Film Festival Noida 2011 being held at Marwah Studios from 25th to 27th November 2011. Jean Rouch is considered to be one of the founders of the cinéma vérité in France, which shared the aesthetics of the direct cinema. Rouch's practice as a filmmaker for over sixty years in Africa, was characterized by the idea of shared anthropology. Influenced by his discovery of surrealism in his early twenties, many of his films blur the line between fiction and documentary, creating a new style of ethno fiction. His seminal film ‘Me a Black Moi un Noir’ pioneered the technique of jump cut popularized by Jean-Luc Godard. This film is being shown in GFFN 2011. The other films will be ‘Little by Little’, ‘Hunting the Lion with Bow and Arrow’, ‘The Mad Masters’, ‘Chronicles of Summer’ and a tribute film on him ‘Mosso Mosso’ by Jean Andre Fieschi.
