| Seminar on “Spotting Fake News: Think Before You Share” Inaugurated at Marwah Studios |
Noida: A thought-provoking seminar titled “Spotting Fake News: Think Before You Share” was inaugurated at Marwah Studios during the ongoing academic and media engagement programs. The seminar brought together eminent journalists, media leaders, diplomats, and policymakers to deliberate on the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age.
The distinguished panel included Shahnawaz Ahmad Ansari, Communication Leader and CSR Strategist; Aditi Rajput, Deputy Editor & Anchor at NDTV; Vivek Anand, Prime Time Anchor at Republic Bharat; Kumar Rakesh, Senior Journalist; Dr. Neeraj A. Sharma, Hon. Consul General of the Republic of Palau; Pradeep K. Chandel, National President AHPWI; Sanjay Singh, Senior Resident Editor of Lok Satya Dainik; S. N. Sinha, Veteran Indian Photojournalist and former Photo Editor of Hindustan Times; and Atul Garg, Member of Parliament.
Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of Marwah Studios and Founder of Noida Film City, initiated the seminar by emphasizing the urgent need for media literacy in today’s fast-paced digital environment. He stated that fake news has become one of the biggest threats to social harmony, democracy, and responsible journalism. “As communicators and citizens, we must verify before we amplify. Education and awareness are the strongest tools to combat misinformation,” he said, encouraging students and media professionals to uphold ethics and authenticity in reporting.
Atul Garg, Member of Parliament, addressed the gathering and spoke about the social and political impact of fake news. He highlighted how misinformation can create panic, disturb communal harmony, and mislead citizens. He stressed the importance of responsible sharing on social media and called for collective efforts by media houses, educational institutions, and policymakers to strengthen fact-checking mechanisms.
Each speaker contributed insights from their professional experience, presenting real-life case studies that demonstrated how fake news spreads and the consequences it can have. Aditi Rajput discussed newsroom verification processes and the responsibility of editors in maintaining credibility. Vivek Anand spoke about the challenges faced by television media in breaking news situations. Kumar Rakesh and Sanjay Singh shared examples from print journalism, underlining the importance of cross-verification and ethical reporting.
S. N. Sinha reflected on the manipulation of images and the significance of photo authenticity in journalism, while Shahnawaz Ahmad Ansari highlighted the role of strategic communication and corporate responsibility in preventing misinformation. Dr. Neeraj A. Sharma spoke about the global dimension of fake news and the need for international cooperation to promote truthful communication.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session where students engaged with the panelists, gaining valuable insights into identifying misinformation and practicing responsible media consumption.
