The Maison des Esclaves is a central part of the
Gorée Island UNESCO World Heritage site, named in 1978, and a major draw for
foreign tourists to Senegal. Only 20 minutes by ferry from the city centre of Dakar,
200,000 visitors a year pass through the Museum here.

the United States Bill Clinton, President South Africa Nelson Mandela have all
made high profile stops. On June 27, 2013, U.S. President Barack Obama with
First Lady Michelle Obama also visited "The Door of No Return.
“I am touched and feeling emotionally week by the
ruthlessness hammered on the last generations here at Goree Island. I will pray
that nothing like this ever prevailed in the world now” said Marwah at the conference with Eloi COLY the curator of House of Slaves and site manager, Goree.
