BIS Organises Powerful Seminar on Emerging Standards in Media & Entertainment Industry at Marwah Studios

Noida: A powerful seminar on “Emerging Standards in Media & Entertainment Industry” was organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, in association with the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry (ICMEI) at Marwah Studios, Film City, Noida.

The programme brought together senior representatives from BIS, leading media and entertainment professionals, academicians, broadcasters, cinema experts, filmmakers, and students to deliberate on the growing importance of standards, quality, safety, technology, and professional practices in the rapidly evolving media and entertainment industry.

The programme was conducted by Suryansh Singh, Consultant, BIS. The welcome address was delivered by Alok Singh, Scientist & Head, Service Sector Department, BIS, who highlighted the significance of developing appropriate standards for emerging service sectors and creative industries.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair, Media and Entertainment Committee, BIS, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that standardisation has become essential for the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of the Indian media and entertainment industry.

“The media and entertainment industry is transforming at an unprecedented pace with the emergence of OTT platforms, artificial intelligence, virtual production, digital cinema, immersive technologies, new broadcasting systems and other technological innovations. In such a dynamic environment, standards are not merely technical guidelines; they are instruments for ensuring quality, professionalism, safety, efficiency and global acceptance,” said Dr. Marwah.

He further added, “India has the talent, creativity, technology and a huge consumer base to become a global leader in media and entertainment. The development and adoption of appropriate Indian Standards can provide a strong foundation for the industry and help Indian companies and professionals compete confidently in the international marketplace.”

Dr. Marwah emphasised that the industry, educational institutions, technology companies, professional bodies and government organisations must work together in developing standards that are practical, progressive, inclusive and aligned with international best practices.

The seminar featured valuable insights from several distinguished experts, including Ujwal Nirgudkar, Chairman, SMPTE India Section; Prof. Shashwati Goswami, Regional Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC); Atul Churamani, Managing Director, Turnkey Music; Tarun Kumar Mazumdar, Former Vice President, INOX Cinemas; and Shivam Soni, Scientist & Deputy Director, BIS.

They shared their experiences and perspectives on technological advancement, cinema, music, broadcasting, education, digital media, professional practices, and the need for greater standardisation across different segments of the industry.

The discussions were further enriched by contributions from Prof. Dr. Vikas Singh, Dean – Cinema, AAFT; Prof. Dr. Syed Nawaz, Dean, AAFT School of Journalism; Dr. Sushil Bharti, Director – Broadcasting, Marwah Studios; and Shagun Singhal Garg, Media Expert, who shared practical experiences and highlighted the challenges and opportunities emerging within the media and entertainment ecosystem.

The speakers stressed that evolving standards can help improve quality, interoperability, consumer confidence, professional efficiency, technological adoption, and international collaboration while ensuring that India’s rapidly expanding media and entertainment sector remains future-ready.

The seminar concluded with an emphasis on continued dialogue between BIS and the media and entertainment fraternity to identify emerging requirements and develop standards that can contribute to the growth of a globally competitive and professionally robust Indian media and entertainment industry.

New Delhi: Dr. Sandeep Marwah, National Chair of the Media & Entertainment Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, chaired an important committee meeting in New Delhi to deliberate on strengthening quality standards, promoting innovation, and advancing best practices across India’s rapidly growing Media & Entertainment sector.

The meeting brought together eminent professionals, industry experts, policymakers, technical specialists, and representatives from the media and entertainment ecosystem to review ongoing initiatives and discuss the formulation and implementation of standards that will enhance quality, efficiency, safety, and global competitiveness within the industry.

During the meeting, the Committee deliberated on emerging technologies, digital transformation, content production standards, broadcasting, animation, visual effects, gaming, and other evolving segments of the Media & Entertainment industry. The discussions also focused on aligning Indian standards with international benchmarks while encouraging innovation and supporting the growth of creative industries.

Addressing the members, Dr. Sandeep Marwah emphasised the growing importance of standardisation in an increasingly technology-driven and globally connected media landscape.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Dr. Marwah said: “Quality standards are the foundation of excellence, credibility, and sustainable growth. As India’s Media & Entertainment industry continues to expand its global footprint, it is essential that we establish robust, future-ready standards that encourage innovation while ensuring quality, safety, interoperability, and international competitiveness. The Bureau of Indian Standards has a vital role in shaping a framework that will benefit creators, institutions, businesses, and consumers alike.”

Dr. Marwah further highlighted that the Committee remains committed to working closely with government agencies, industry stakeholders, educational institutions, and technology experts to develop comprehensive standards that reflect the evolving needs of the sector and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to accelerate the development of progressive standards that will strengthen India’s position as a global hub for media, entertainment, digital content, and creative industries while reinforcing the nation’s commitment to quality and excellence.

Noida, India – The 13th Media and Entertainment Committee meeting of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, was successfully conducted at Marwah Studios under the esteemed chairmanship of Dr. Sandeep Marwah.

During the meeting, Dr. Sandeep Marwah highlighted the significance of standardization in the media and entertainment industry. He informed the attendees about the various standards being developed under the committee’s supervision. He also emphasized the role of 12 sub-committees comprising 60 industry experts from various disciplines, all working collectively to establish uniform benchmarks for the sector.

“Standardization is crucial in ensuring quality, consistency, and global recognition for India’s growing media and entertainment industry,” said Dr. Marwah. He further expressed gratitude to all committee members for their dedicated efforts in shaping industry standards.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Secretary Member Shivam Soni, acknowledging the contributions of all participants in driving the initiative forward.

New Delhi: A remarkable painting exhibition by renowned artist Renuka Anand was inaugurated at Marwah Studios during the BIS Summit on Media & Entertainment Standards. The exhibition was formally opened by Dr. Judyta Latymowich, a distinguished lawyer from Poland and a member of the Asian Law College, in the presence of esteemed guests and industry leaders.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah, a prominent figure in the media and entertainment industry, praised Renuka Anand’s artistic contributions, highlighting the importance of integrating art with the evolving media landscape.

Renuka Anand, while addressing the gathering, shared insights about her creative journey and the inspiration behind her paintings, emphasizing the deep connection between art, culture, and storytelling.

New Delhi: “I am thankful to each and every member of committee on Media & Entertainment Industry SSD-13 in Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India where we are all involved with the planning and designing of standards for Indian media and entertainment Industry,” said Dr. Sandeep Marwah National Chairman of the committee while talking to the professionals from the industry in the fifth meeting of the media chapter.

The committee was framed two years back and ten subcommittees were created including Print, Radio, Television & OTT, Cinema, Education & Skill Development, Sound & Music, Event Management, New Media and Advertising.

Every subcommittee has some professionals from the industry sharing their vast experiences and expertise to frame better standards for the industry. The board has invited professionals and experts for suggestions from Airtel Digitel TV, Advertising Standards Council of India, Amazon Prime Video India, Association of Bangalore Animation Industry, Association of Radio Operators of India, Central Board of Film Certification, Children Film Society India, Confederation of Indian Industry and Dolby Technology India P Ltd.

First Meeting of Bureau of Indian Standards

New Delhi: The first meeting of newly constituted Media and Entertainment Committee of BIS- Bureau of Indian Standards under Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food And Public Distribution took place on web inviting some of the most important stake holders of the industry.

“We are the sixth biggest industry in India with almost touching 2,30,000 Crores turn over and were expected to be 3,00,000 crores by 2024. Around ten million people are directly working in this industry and we are supporting another ten

million in associated industries like tourism, hospitality, engineering, travel and transport, interior designing, food and catering etc,” initiated and briefed by Dr. Sandeep Marwah Chairperson of the committee.

“It is a historical moment when for the first time in India we all are meeting to raise the standard of Indian media and entertainment industry and trying to introduce standards in this creative environment. We want world to appreciate our efforts of introducing quality, productivity and conducive environment for the people of creative World,” added Dr. Sandeep Marwah.

The meeting, which lasted for three hours covered many points concerning the scope and composition of media and entertainment services sectional committee and the strategy and roadmap for standardization.

The meeting was attended by the senior representatives of Airtel Digital TV,  CFSI- Children’s Film Society India, CII- Confederation of Indian Industry, EEMA- Event and Entertainment Management Association, FCCI- Federation of Indian

Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Jagran Prakashan Ltd , MESC- Media and Entertainment Skills Council.

Executives from Industry Alliances, Media & Advocacy Consultant, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology,  Newspaper Association of India, Prasar Bharti , PVR Ltd , Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Yash Raj Films , Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), International Chamber of Media And Entertainment Industry and senior officers from Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food And Public Distribution participated in full swing and came to many concrete decisions.
